Darren Kelly, who had a game-high 24 points, took more than six minutes to open the scoring for Saudi Arabia’s Al Ittihad in the quarterfinal game against twice defending champions Mahram. But by then, each of Mahram’s starters had scored at least once leading the Iranian giants to an 18-0 lead.
Mahram’s 102-65 win, thus, looked a mere formality after that. |

Hosts Al Rayyan called the shots right from the word, moved on relentlessly before finishing off the challenge of Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal with a 97-59 win on Friday.
Rayyan, thus broke a two-year semifinal jinx for the hosting team of the FIBA Asia Champions Cup.
The hosts of the previous two editions – Satria Muda of Indonesia in 2009 and Al Qadsia of Kuwait the year earlier – had lost out in the quarterfinals.
The previous occasion when the hosts made the semifinals was in 2007, when Saba Battery had gone on to win the FIBA Asia Champions Cup when they hosted the 18th edition at Tehran. |
