Punjab Police men, S Rly women win title
 

KOCHI, India (26th Federation Cup): Punjab Police defeated Oil and Natural Gas Commission 72-59 in the men’s final and Southern Railway overcame Chattisgarh 95-57 in the women’s final to clinch the title in the 26th Federation Cup tournament on Sunday.

The winners were awarded INR 100,000 each (approx US$ 2000).

Junior India international Amritpal Singh was the star in Punjab Police’s win reeling in 22 points and collecting 11 rebounds. Jagdeep Singh had 17 points and Amanjot Singh contributed 15 points.

Vishesh Bhriguvanshi paced ONGC with 21 points and 8 rebounds with Yadwinder Singh adding 20 points.

In the women’s final, for once India superstar Geethu Anna Jose was the highest scorer for Southern Railway.

Geethu, India’s only player to tryout in the WNBA had 20 points and 7 rebounds, but the credit for the game-high score went to Renjini Peter who had a 13/22 field shooting for her 30 points.

Anitha Pauldurai had 18 points.

Poonam Chaturvedi, one of the taller players to appear on the Indian scene in recent times had 17 points for Chattisgarh with Seema Singh adding 16 points.
