AMMAN, Jordan (Jordan Premier League): Superstars Zaid Abbaas and Sam Daghles fired in tandem as former champions Orthodox won 91-87 on Monday in the decisive Game 5 of the 2011-12 Jordanian Premier League Finals against defending champions Applied Science University.
Abbaas and Daghles each had 23 points as Orthodox capped of a marvelous resurgence winning three games in a row to regain the title they last won in the 2002-03 season. Overall it is the ninth time Orthodox are champions of Jordan.
Mousa Alawadi led all scorers with his 27 points for ASU while Islam Abbas contributed 16 points.
Game 5 somehow typified the Finals series itself with ASU racing ahead 22-17 at the end of the first quarter and 44-41 at the end of the first half.
ASU continued to hold control and when they led 62-59 at the end of the third period and built a 11-point lead at the start of the fourth period.
But a 12-0 run pumped fresh air into Orthodox cause and soon the team led by 8-points and held fort thereafter.
ASU had won the first two games of the best-of-five contest 72-65 and 96-93 before Orthodox bounced back to square the series winning Game 3 (93-75) and Game 4 (89-82).
