MANAMA, Bahrain (32nd GCC Champions Cup): Qatar’s Al Rayyan regained the top place in the GCC clubs basketball on Thursday with a resounding 89-61 win against Bahrain’s Al Hala in the finals of the 32nd edition of the competition.
Rayyan thus share the top place in the roll of honor with Saudi Arabian clubs Uhud and Al Ittihad – all having won the title five times each.
Rayyan took charge of the proceedings early in the game raking up a 28-17 lead at the end of first quarter and built it to a 52-29 lead at the end of the first half.
There was very little that troubled Brian Rowsom’s team in their march to victory.
Earlier, there was some consolation for the local fans with Bahrain’s Al Muharraq beating Al Wasl of UAE 83-66 in the play-off for the third place.
Bahrain Olympic Committee president Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa along with FIBA Asia president Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al-Thani and FIBA Asia Secretary General Mr. Hagop Khajirian gave away the prizes.
