MIAOLI CITY, Chinese Taipei (William Jones Cup): Cathay Life and Chunghua Telecom, two teams who played the 2011-12 WSBL Finals, met again in the William Jones Cup women’s competition on Tuesday. The result too was the same with the former posting a 67-47 win that kept their unbeaten record and virtually assured them of the title with a game in hand.
Meanwhile, Indian NT defeated Chapman University, a US Division III college team, 111-67 for their win and Japan University National Team assured themselves of a third place finish beating Malaysian NT 93-34.
Cathay began the game with a flurry raking up a 20-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and cantered through.
Liu Chun-Yi was their highest scoring with 18 points. Chiang Feng-Chun (pic above) had an impressive all-round show of 16 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and a block.
Lan Hao-Yu contributed 11 points.
Chen Yi-Feng’s 13 points was the only double-digit score for Chunghua.
Six Indian players scored in the double-digits as the team went on to post their first win against the inexperienced University girls.
Geethu Anna Jose led the Indian cause with 17 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 6 blocks.
Anju Lakra had 16 points with Akanksha Singh and Apoorva Muralinath, the latter on her maiden international appearance for India contributing 14 points each.
Emily McCoy led Chapman with 16 points.
Mio Shinozaki continued her good showing for the Japanese University team with 16 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals.
Kaede Kondo and Yuka Kosuge each had a dozen points with the latter also pulling down 7 rebounds.
Eugene Ting’s 9 points was the highest for Malaysia, who take on India on the final day in a virtual play-off for the fourth place.
