MANILA, Philippines (PBA Governor’s Cup): Rain or Shine won their first ever PBA title beating 2011-12 PBA Commissioner’s Cup winners B-Meg Llamados 83-76 in Game 7 of the 2011-12 PBA Governor’s Cup Finals, thus winning the season-ending conference.

Rain or Shine thus finished on top of each stage of the 2011-12 PBA Governor’s Cup, having topped the Elimination Round as well as the Semifinal Round-Robin.

Import Jamelle Cornley was the leader of the charge for Rain or Shine, who took a 3-1 lead, but failed to close the championship in the previous two games, with 20 points and 14 rebounds.

Jeffri Chan, who was voted the PBA Press Corps Finals MVP, contributed 16 points. Former Philippine NT international Gabe Norwood added 15 points and 7 rebounds.

James Yap reeled in his third successive game-high haul scoring 23 points for the Llamados, but this time finished on the losing side. Marqus Blakely had 15 points and 16 rebounds with PJ Simon adding 11 points.

“This is really a special group. They’ll get better. After six years for the franchise, and for myself, I’m happy we won,” beamed RoS coach Yeng Guiao, who won his sixth PBA title as a coach.

Guiao also joined an elite group of coaches to win a championship with three different teams, after Baby Dalupan (Crispa, Great Taste and Purefoods), Tommy Manotoc (Utex, San Miguel and Cripa) and Chot Reyes (Purefoods, Coca-Cola, Talk N Text).  Guiao had won two titles with Swift and three with Red Bull.

“This is for everyone who represents the Rain or Shine organization. It was a dream that they had nurtured for six years and it came to fruition today,” said Guiao.

“It was made possible by guys with big hearts, by the determination of a bunch of young guys,” he added. “But, honestly, I still don’t know how we beat them.”
