Manila to host 7th SEABA Women’s Championship
KUALA LUMPUR / MANILA (7th SEABA Women’s Championship): Laos return to the event after more than a decade as six teams will come face to face in the 7th SEABA Women’s Championship to be hosted by Manila from Oct 24.
Four-times winners Thailand will be up against traditional rivals and 1999 winners Malaysia, hosts Philippines, 2004 winners Singapore, Indonesia and Laos in the six-day event.
Laos last participated in the event in its inaugural edition at Surat Thani in 1995.
“It is very heartwarming to see the event gaining in popularity among the women teams in our (South East Asia) region,” said SEABA Secretary General Dato’ Yeoh Choo Hock.
“We are moving at very good pace with the launch of the ABL last year. We hope we can extend similar activities for women too,” he added.
“We all know the rich and vibrant tradition of basketball in Philippines. And I am very confident that the Manila event will add another important, and progressive, chapter in the SEABA women’s basketball events,” he said.
