TEHRAN, Iran (13th WABA Championship): Asghar Kardoust poured in 10 points in the Overtime helping Iran to a 100-86 win against archrivals and defending champions Lebanon in a virtual play-off game in the 13th WABA Championship at the Azadi Complex on Saturday.
Lebanon had trailed Iran for the better part of the even-keeled encounter before a final surge in the closing five minutes forced the issue to go into Overtime.
Kardoust (#12 in pic above) who had been singled out by Lebanon coach Ghassan Sarkis as the man to watch out for on eve of the game brought such fears to reality with a show of strength, solidity and sensible basketball under pressure.
The young and upcoming Amir Seddighi used his height to good effect and provided the support for Kardoust accounting for 5 points in clutch and helping Iran coast through surprisingly smoothly in the Overtime.
Lebanon, on the other hands, withered where Iran flourished.
Lebanon’s Naturalized Terry Reyshawn who had accounted for 9 points in Lebanon’s resurgence in the final five minutes of regulation time managed only two points and the talismanic Fadi El Khatib scored only four points in Overtime as the Cedars fell to the spirit of Iran.
